A Message from ACCR’s Legal Director

2.25.26

Lately, I’ve been reminded of the (oft-misquoted) line by Mark Twain that the report of my death was an exaggeration.

I write this because I’ve had many questions lately about how things are going, the implication being that I’ve left the Atlantic Center or decided to retire. Neither is true!

When we announced in October that Frances Harvey would become interim executive director and I’d be moving into the role of legal director, it was a decision based on how best to move the Atlantic Center forward. The work we do got significantly harder after the 2024 election, and this organizational restructure puts me right where I should be – consulting with capital teams, testifying in funding hearings, and reminding lawyers to not waive their preliminary hearings.

Frances is a visionary leader who will not just keep the lights on, but will take our organization to where we need to be to meet our urgent challenges, move and grow in the right direction, and ensure that our future has more justice than our past had.

So - no more, “How’s it going, Marc?” It’s going great, and, with your continued support, maybe it can go even better.
