James Berardinelli is currently the Chief of the Appellate Division for the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office and a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar. He is also a former member of the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association and former co-chair of the Criminal Justice Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
He began his legal career as a law clerk for Justice Frank J. Montemuro of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and then served seventeen years in the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office as a homicide and special victims prosecutor and assistant chief of the Special Investigations Unit prosecuting cases of police and municipal corruption. In 2012 he founded James F. Berardinelli, LLC, where he specialized in defending homicide and major felony cases, at both the trial and appellate levels before joining the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office in December of 2020.
